Increased Community Engagement through Gamification Strategy

The Problem
For the final phase of my contract work through The Sparkery for Adobe, we were tasked to gamify their community forums and learning platform in order to increase user engagement.

Research & Analysis
First, we reviewed the most up-to-date research on gamification studies, and identified 4 main archetypes of users to design for - the Socializer, the Achiever, the Explorer, and the Disruptor.


Design
We then created challenges, missions, kudos, and a trophy case, that would speak to at least one (but usually multiple!) of these user archetypes. This ideation was a joint effort by me and Steve Cox, with me taking the lead on all wireframing and new iconography.




Testing & Results
Our scope of work for this project was wrapped up after the final wireframes so we weren't able to test. We did receive feedback that user engagement increased and anecdotally, that they were delighted by the gamification features.
